Geary Street Cemetery

Experiences | Investigations

Not much is known about this cemetery in Dartmouth it seems but a small plaque in the ground there sheds some light on its history.

Paraphrasing, the plaque reads that the ground was consecrated in 1825 and buried there are Waterloo veterans as well as many Mi’kmaq people, including two chiefs. Also, the Aunt of Princess Eugenia is buried there as well as the Dunn family.

There are thirteen coffins within the Dunn family vault and it is one of two in all of Nova Scotia.

Experiences

There were no reports of unexplained occurrences that we heard of, or could find, about the Geary Street Cemetery.

Investigations

October, 2008
We were asked to investigate this cemetery by Aaron Legge who works for a company called “Heritage Explorers”. It was Aaron’s hope that we’d find something unexplained that they could add to the “Bluenose Ghosts Haunted House and Cemetery Tour” which first started last year and is conducted near the end of October.

Due to lack of ghostly reports we felt that this cemetery most likely wasn’t haunted at all. But we investigated it with an open mind on the off chance that something might occur, and if it did, it would help out Aaron Legge with the tour. After all, the Halloween tour is for a good cause because proceeds go to help with the restoration and other attentions of the Geary Street cemetery itself.

We visited the cemetery on the night of October, 4th, 2008. We spent a few hours there, but since it is a very public place in downtown Dartmouth, we decided not to spend the entire night.

On this particular investigation we brought along an analog tape recorder, our EMF meter, and a DVD video camera. We filmed, monitored the EMF meter (which pulsed slightly at one point during the night but nothing significant), and conducted some questioning in hopes of possibly catching an EVP. In the end though, when the data was reviewed, nothing unexplained was found.

We’d like to thank Aaron Legge and Adam Langley for contacting us for assistance and wish them the best of luck with the "Bluenose Ghosts Haunted House and Cemetery Tour". Also, we’d like to thank Adam Cross, who also worked with the tour, for joining us as our guest that evening.
